PNP chief yet to see something wrong in deadly Ozamiz police raid

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Sunday said that based on initial reports, there was nothing wrong with the police raid that led to the killing of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, his wife and 10 others.

"So far wala akong nakitang problema based on the report on the service of warrant," Dela Rosa told GMA News.

Dela Rosa said that the Parojinogs had long been suspected of being the main drug personalities in Ozamiz City.

He added that the Parojinogs' involvement in illegal drugs has been an "open secret" in the city.

The PNP chief also said that they have also been receiving reports about the Parojinogs' private army.

Among those killed by policemen in the predawn raid on the mayor's house were four members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team, who are allegedly acting as armed bodyguards of the local chief executive.

Dela Rosa said that the killing of the Parojinogs should serve as a stern warning against other suspected narcopoliticians.

Police said that several firearms and suspected illegal drugs were seized from the houses owned by the Parojinogs, including that of Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez.

The vice mayor is currently detained at the Ozamiz City Police Station. —ALG, GMA News
