Kian’s mom: Duterte vowed to solve case ASAP

President Rodrigo Duterte has promised the parents of slain 17-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos that the case on their son’s murder will be resolved as quickly as possible.

“Pinangako naman po niya sa amin na sa lalong madaling panahon ay tutulungan niya kaming malutas ang kaso dahil hindi po niya papayagan kung sinuman daw po iyong nagkasala ay dapat maparusahan,” delos Santos’ mother Lorenza told Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson in an interview posted on her personal Facebook page.

Duterte met with Saldy and Lorenza delos Santos, the parents of the Grade 12 student who was killed in an anti-drug raid in Caloocan City last week, at the Malago Clubhouse, Malacañang Park.

Kian’s parents said the meeting with Duterte assuaged their grief.

“Opo [panatag na ang loob], dahil alam naman po natin na si Pangulong Duterte ang Presidente natin. So, wala na pong agam-agam na pagtitiwalang buong puso na makakatulong po siya na mapadali ang pagresolba ng kaso ng anak ko,” Lorenza said.

“Panatag na. Nawala na iyong takot sa buhay namin. Iyon lang po. Masaya,” Saldy added.

According to a press release from Malacañang, Duterte also vowed that abuses committed during his administration would not be tolerated.

“Wala akong ano na mag-kapote ng abuso. Hindi trabaho ng Presidente ‘yan,” he was quoted.

“Trabaho namin is proteksyon ng tao,” he added.

Duterte and Lorenza shared a hug during the meeting. The pair was also photographed doing Duterte’s signature fist bump.

Malacañang said delos Santos’ parents wanted to personally thank Duterte for the assurance that justice would be served for their son's death.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, Public Attorney's Office chief Persida Acosta, and Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption chairman Dante Jimenez were also present at the meeting.

“During their meeting, the President reassured them that there will be no interference in the case citing that justice will prevail and that the handling of the case will be fair,” the caption of the photo set read.

When Uson asked about their response to those who were using the death of their son for politics, Delos Santos’ mom replied: “Sana po na tigilan na po, kasi hindi naman po kami namumulitika eh. Ang gusto lang po namin ay mabigyan po ng katarungan iyong pagkamatay ng anak ko. Iyon lang po.” — RSJ/KVD/BM, GMA News
