Mans Carpio: Trillanes ‘imputing malice’ on my work as lawyer

The son-in-law of President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday hit back at Senator Trillanes for “imputing malice” on his work as a lawyer in dragging him into the alleged corruption at the Bureau of Customs.

Manases Carpio, husband of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and nephew of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, said that it is part of his job as a lawyer to go to government agencies for his clients.

“I represent many clients who have transactions with the Bureau of Customs. It is my job as a lawyer to appear before government agencies for and on behalf of my principals,” he said in a statement he also posted on his Facebook profile.

“Senator Trillanes is imputing malice in saying that my appearance before the BOC is because of smuggling. He is just a desperate rumor monger who happens to be a Senator,” he added, with the hashtag #desperado.

Trillanes earlier claimed that Carpio, whom he tagged as behind the "Davao Group" with Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, received bribe money to facilitate the swift entry and release of shipments at the BOC.

Trillanes said that his informants said Carpio visited the office of former Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon five times late last year to early this year. — RSJ, GMA News
