PAO finds Carl Angelo shot five times 'like at a firing range'

A re-autopsy on the body of Carl Angelo Arnaiz found evidence that the 19-year-old had been killed execution-style, the Public Attorney's Office (PAO) said on Monday.

The PAO's forensic expert Dr. Erwin Erfe told GMA 7 news program "24 Oras" that Arnaiz had been shot five times: thrice in the middle of the chest, once near the edge of the torso, and once on the arm.

"'Yung dalawa or tatlong gunshot wounds dito inflicted while, based on trajectory studies namin, mukhang nakaluhod siya at that time noong unang two or three shots. And then the last two shots inflicted while nakahiga na siya," explained Erfe.

"Ginawang parang firing range 'yung katawan... ginawang firing range 'yung bata," PAO chief Atty. Persida Acosta said.

Arnaiz also had scars his eyes, face and arms, which Erfe called "defense wounds."

"So all-in-all, na-posas siya, binugbog, kinaladkad, at saka pinatay, intentional killing po 'yan," she added.

Caloocan City cops Police Officer 1 Jeffrey Perez and Police Officer 1 Ricky Arquilita claimed that Arnaiz shot at them when they attempted to arrest him for robbing a taxi driver.

Acosta also pointed to similarities between Arnaiz's death and that of 17-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos. The latter was killed in a police anti-narcotic operation last August 16, likewise in the hands of Caloocan City police.

"Bakit parang may parallelism o parang may common denominator 'tong Kian and Carl Angelo. Parehong anak ng OFW, parehong may munting tindahan sa harapan gn kanilang bahay, parehong gwapo... Okay ang itsura nila eh, may itsura sila pareho," she said.

Autopsies taken in both cases resulted in findings that were contrary to their respective police reports.

The PAO is planning to file murder charges against Caloocan City cops Perez and Arquilita, both of whom had been relieved from duty pending an investigation into Arnaiz killing.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II had meanwhile also ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the killing. — Margaret Claire Layug, GMA News
