Transport groups ask for hike in minimum jeepney fare from P8 to P10

Five transport groups on Tuesday filed before the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board a petition for an increase in the minimum jeepney fare.

They asked for a hike in the minimum jeepney fare from P8 to P10 for the first four kilometers in the National Capital Region and Regions 3 and 4, GMA News' Raffy Tima posted on Twitter.

The petition was filed by the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP), Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO), Liga ng Transport Operator ng Pilipinas (LTOP), Alliance Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (ALTODAP), and Pangkalahatang Sanggunian Manila and Suburbs Drivers Association (Pasang Masda).

The groups cited as their reasons for the petition the increase in the pump prices of diesel in the past, the recent increase in minimum wage from P491 to P512, the increase in prices of spare parts due to peso depreciation, and an expected new round of increase in diesel prices.

The transport groups said the riding public will understand their predicament and will be able to shoulder the fare hike. —KG/KVD, GMA News
