Pantao Ragat mayor’s brother among Maute members killed in Marawi —military

The brother of Pantao Ragat Mayor Lacson Lantud was among the Maute terrorists killed in recent military operations in Marawi City, GMA News' Jun Veneracion reported on 24 Oras on Wednesday, citing the military.

Hattah Lantud was killed on September 15 along with four other Maute members, the report said. His body and that of another one were recovered.

Brigadier General Melquiades Ordiales Jr. of the First Marine Brigade said they only learned about Hattah Lantud when a community of Maranaos identified his body.

"May nagsabi na kilala nila si Lantud, so dun namin na-discover na kapatid siya ng isang mayor," he said.

The report said Hattah Lantud, who was in his mid-20s, was a Certified Public Accountant with a degree from the Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA) in Metro Manila.

Lieutenant Colonel Geraldo Bautista of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 7 said Hattah Lantud was disowned by his parents upon learning that he had joined the pro-ISIS Maute group.

"Accordingly, ang sabi ng magulang niya, kaya dinis-own na siya nang sabihian siya, 'Ano bang ginagawa mo diyan sa grupo na yan? Accordingly, sabi niya heto daw ang magliligtas sa aating lahat. Heto 'yung magdadala sa atin sa langit," he said.

Just like the Maute brothers who were behind the May 23 attack in Marawi City, authorities said several members of the terrorist group have proper education. —Margaret Claire Layug/KBK, GMA News
