Crowds flock to UPLB hoping to get ‘promised cash’ allegedly from Marcoses


With a promised cash incentive allegedly from the family of late strongman Ferdinand Marcos, a burgeoning crowd trooped to the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) campus on Saturday.

According to YouScooper Camille Pablo, participants who gathered at the campus' Freedom Park came from different parts of the Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions.

Several participants arrived in carpools expecting to recieve cash that allegedly came from the Marcos family.

They were also carrying reading materials containing Marcos' life and achievements, to which the the holders' names and photos were attached.

 


 

The UPLB Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs said it approved a permit for "One Social Family Credit Cooperative General Assembly" to conduct the program on school grounds.

"UPLB approved the letter of Mr. Jeffrey S. Fortuna, National Inspectorate / Cooperative Secretariat of the One Social Family Credit Cooperative to hold general assembly meeting at the lower field managed by the (Department) of Human Kinetics," UPLB Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Dr. Serlie Jamias said in a statement.

"Chancellor approved in the past many sectoral groups In the past such as the lumads, peasants, biy scouts, sports events, plus others from communities to use UPLB grounds as community sharing," he added.

The event was one of the four activities simultaneously held within the campus' vicinity on Saturday.

 


‘Bring sacks’

The participants were calling the program "Bulyon."

Samahan ng Kabataan para sa Bayan (SAKBAYAN), a UPLB student organization, said Fortuna expected 50,000 "Marcos beneficiaries" to attend the event.

The organization said some participants were told they were going to receive ATM cards, while others were advised to bring sacks and shovels so they could dig for the Marcos' ill-gotten wealth.

According to SAKBAYAN's post, booklets that had Marcos' face on the cover were came from "Bullion Buyer Ltd."

The Securities and Exchange Commission in May issued an advisory against transacting with a certain "Bullion Buyers LTD" posing as a credit cooperative. — MDM, GMA News
