Palace: Need to verify Duterte claim of Trillanes closing SG account online

President Rodrigo Duterte’s claim that Senator Antonio Trillanes IV closed his Singapore bank account online still needs to be verified, Malacañang said on Monday.

Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella in a briefing also said that Development Bank of Singapore’s clarification that bank accounts could not be closed online should also be substantiated.

“All of these things have to be verified clearly… Well, both. The President claims that… The President claims that it was done that way. So let’s—let’s make sure… And then there’s another party that says it’s not. So both — both aspects need to be verified,” he said.

In a taped interview that aired on state-run People’s Television on Friday, Duterte said that Trillanes closed his DBS bank account online on September 8, 11 days before he flew to Singapore to disprove the Chief Executive’s allegations of offshore accounts.

Twitter users asked DBS if bank accounts could indeed be closed online, to which it replied that accounts could only be closed at the branch or by form. —JST, GMA News
