Motorcycle-riding gunmen killed 125 in less than a month —PNP data

Motorcycle-riding gunmen have killed 125 people around the country in less than a month, police said Tuesday.

Director Augusto Marquez Jr., chief of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM), said the Philippine National Police recorded more than 200 incidents involving men riding motorcycles from October 10 to November 5.

Of the number, 115 were robbery incidents, 93 were shooting incidents and three were stabbing incidents.

"These are incidents wherein motorcycles or scooters are used in the commission of a crime or to ensure a quick escape from the scene of the crime after its commission, as victims died, injured, or unharmed as a result thereof,” Marquez said.

The figures were generated by the DIDM's Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS).

The police official said that of the total incident recorded, only 10 were drug-related.

He said the motorcycle-riders have victimized a total of 363 people during the 29-day period. Of this figure, 125 people were killed.

Marquez said police have arrested 64 motorcycle-riding suspects while 380 more are still at-large.

Of these incidents, the police have declared only 45 as solved, 14 have been "cleared" and 267 are still under investigation. —ALG, GMA News
