Trump believes in Duterte’s war on drugs, Malacañang claims

US President Donald Trump believes President Rodrigo Duterte is implementing the war on drugs properly, Malacañang claimed on Thursday.

Presidential spokesman Secretary Harry Roque made the remark following the White House's announcement that it would provide $2 million for the Philippines' efforts against illegal drugs.

"That proves without doubt that the US President supports the war on drugs. Why would he otherwise give two million dollars to this cause if he thinks it’s not being implemented correctly?" Roque said at a briefing on Thursday.

According to the White House, Trump announced $2 million to support drug demand reduction programs in the Philippines.

As of GMA News Online is seeking confirmation if this was the same P102 million commitment to the anti-illegal drugs efforts, as announced by the US Embassy in September. —NB, GMA News
