House: Sereno may face arrest if she doesn’t attend impeach hearing

The House of Representatives Justice Committee on Sunday warned that they could have Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno arrested should she continue to ignore invitations to attend hearings regarding her impeachment.

According to a report on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend," House Justice Committee Chair Reynaldo Umali said Sereno is compelled to attend impeachment hearings.

In the report, Umali was said to have cautioned Sereno that they may be forced to file a subpoena against her should she not show up at the proceedings.

With the subpoena, Sereno could then be arrested if she still chooses not to attend.

For their part, Sereno's camp said she is not compelled to attend the hearings as she is a respondent and not a witness. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
