Noynoy Aquino to fight for what’s right if Duterte sets up ‘revolutionary gov’t’

Former President Benigno Aquino III on Monday said that he would fight for what he thought was right if President Rodrigo Duterte would impose a revolutionary government on the country.

According to Sandra Aguinaldo's report on "24 Oras", Aquino said he would participate in such efforts but "not in a central role."

Duterte in October raised the possibility of a revolutionary government being in set up if supposed destabilization efforts continued against his government.

Last week, he seemed to take back what he said when he said in a speech before soldiers that the country had nothing to gain from a "revolutionary government."

"Mahirap naman magsalita, (na) I will lead. Pine-presume kasi I have so many followers, at never kong ginawa yun. So gagawin ko kung anong dapat," Aquino told reporters after a mass on occasion of his late father's 85th birthday.

"I will be taking part also, but not in a central role," he added.

Malacañang announced on Monday that there is no factual or legal basis for a revolutionary government "for now" even with clamor from the President's supporters.

Aquino lamented that the problems the late former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. sought to solve when he was still alive remain unsolved.

"The questions of human rights are still valid, the issue of poverty is still being tackled," Aquino said. —Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
