BI to deport South Korean wanted for violent acts

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to deport a South Korean national who is facing a case in his country for alleged violent acts he committed there years ago.

Armed with a deportation warrant signed by Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, the BI Fugitive Search Unit arrested 47-year-old Kang Bum Su on December 5 at his home in Villasol Subdivision, Angeles City, Pampanga.

Morente said Kang was ordered expelled by the BI Board of Commissioners after the South Korean Embassy in Manila informed the BI about his criminal record and that he had become undocumented as a result of the cancellation of his passport by the Korean government.

According to the BI, a warrant for Kang’s arrest was issued on August 25, 2015 by a South Korean court where he was indicted for violating the country’s punishment of violence act.

The said law punishes any person or group of persons who commit violence and use deadly weapon that result in bodily harm to their victims.

BI’s travel database showed Kang last arrived in Manila on July 24, 2011 and did not leave the country since then.

The BI said a team of South Korean policemen is expected to arrive in Manila soon to fetch and escort the fugitive on his return flight to his home country.

“He was already included in our blacklist to prevent him from re-entering the country,” Morente said. —KG, GMA News
