Palace maintains Duterte doesn't want RevGov

Malacañang on Saturday maintained that President Rodrigo Duterte does not intend to establish a revolutionary government.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque issued the statement a day after the Social Weather Stations released its latest survey, which shows a "plurality" of Filipinos are opposed to a revolutionary government.

"On SWS survey on revolutionary government, the President has said that he does not want revolutionary government but this does not mean that he would prevent citizens from expressing their support to the revolutionary government," Roque said in a press conference in Cebu City on Saturday.

Citing the latest SWS survey, Roque emphasized that Filipinos are "divided" on the said issue.

In its survey conducted from December 8 to 6 last year, 39 percent of Filipinos oppose the revolutionary government while 31 and 30 percent were in favor and undecided, respectively.

"As we can see from the latest SWS survey, the people are divided on revolutionary government," the Palace official said.

Calls urging Duterte to declare a revolutionary government came following the President's own pronouncement that he will not think twice about making such a declaration if his critics would try to topple his administration.

Duterte himself clarified in late November that he is not planning to establish a revolutionary government.

"The President has time and again said, he mentioned the revolutionary government only in the context on kapag naghihingalo na ang republika," Roque insisted. —ALG, GMA News
