Bong Go to attend Senate hearing on Navy frigate project if summoned

Special Assistant to the President Secretary Bong Go will attend the Senate hearing on the controversial acquisition of two Philippine Navy frigates if asked to do so.

"Dadalo ako," he said in a text message to reporters on Friday.

In an additional statement, Go said he would be willing to face the accusers "anywhere, anytime."

"Accusations are false. Wala akong tinatago[.] Wala [a]kong tinataguan at wala po akong alam tungkol sa issue na yan. From the Halls of the Senate & Congress, to the Courts of Justice and even basketball courts, I will cooperate and face the false and malicious accusations against me," he said.

Members of the Senate minority bloc earlier filed a resolution calling for an investigation into the Navy project after news reports said President Rodrigo Duterte’s aide supposedly “intervened” in the selection of combat management system (CMS) for the warships.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque also in a text message said Malacañang welcomes the probe, but still passed the buck to the previous administration.

"Senate investigation is a welcome move to [determine] if Aquino [government committed] any anomalies in the bidding," he said.

Go denied intervening in the selection of the CMS, while Roque said that there was no separate bidding for the CMS because the bid was awarded during the time of former President Benigno Aquino III. Hyundai Heavy Industries won the bid and selected Hanwha Thales of South Korea to provide the CMS. But the Navy wanted Tacticos CMS of Thales Nederlands Inc.

Duterte defended Go and vowed to fire him if the allegations are proven true.

But Roque said Malacañang's own investigation found the claims "untrue and unfounded." He did not give any more details on the said investigation. —KG/RSJ, GMA News
