Duterte arrives in China with daughter Sara, grandson Stingray

President Rodrigo Duterte has arrived in Hainan, China, to attend the Boao Forum in Asia and hold a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

Duterte was accompanied by his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, and grandson, Stingray.

Duterte is expected to tackle issues on extremism, terrorism and cross-border narcotics trade with the Chinese leader.

According to Philippine Ambassador to China Chito Sta. Romana, a deal to jointly explore disputed areas in the West Philippine Sea will not be part of the agreements the two countries will enter into during the two leaders' meeting.

This week's trip is Duterte’s third visit to China since he assumed presidency in June 2016. He met with Xi in October 2016 and attended the Belt and Road infrastructure forum in Beijing in May 2017.

The Philippines and China relations have been warming since Duterte took power. The Chief Executive has set aside maritime issues with China, noting that the country may play a vital role in economic and infrastructure development of the Philippines.

Before returning to the country on April 12, Duterte is also scheduled to visit Hong Kong on April 11 to check the status of Filipino workers there. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
