Sereno retrieves 11 SALNs —spokesperson

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has "retrieved" 11 of her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), one of her spokespersons confirmed on Thursday.

Nine of these were "recently" recovered from the University of the Philippines, where Sereno worked for two decades, said lawyer Jojo Lacanilao in a text message.

"She recently retrieved her 1985, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 SALNs from the UP Law Center," he said.

The lawyer did not say exactly when the documents were obtained by their camp.

Sereno's 1998 and 2002 SALNs were earlier recovered from the Office of the Ombudsman and from the UP Human Resources Development Office (HRDO), respectively, he said.

Sereno already has her 2009, 2010, 2011 declarations, and "has been filing since 2012," Lacanilao added.

It appears that most of the "retrieved" records have been in UP files all along, except for one — the 1989 SALN.

A certification from the UP HRDO requested by Solicitor General Jose Calida to "prove" his allegations against Sereno shows that the office has on record the top judge's SALNs from the following years: 1985, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995,1996, 1997, and 2002.

This leaves blank the following years: 1986, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006, when the Lacanilao- and the UP-provided lists are checked against each other.

Calida questions the validity of Sereno's appointment as chief justice for her alleged lack of integrity for supposedly not fully disclosing her wealth in accordance with the law.

However, Sereno, invoking jurisprudence, claimed she has consistently filed her SALNs. She has earlier said she was locating her "missing" SALNs and that she would present them to the Senate if and when it convenes as an impeachment court. — MDM, GMA News
