Ex-Sulu gov Tan convicted for non-filing of SALNs, ordered to pay P25,000

The Sandiganbayan has convicted former Sulu governor Abdusakur Tan after he admitted of failing to file his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) from 2007 to 2011.

Tan entered a plea of guilty during his arraignment at the Sandiganbayan Sixth Division on Thursday for five counts of violation of Section 8 of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

The Sandiganbayan ordered Tan to pay a total fine of P25,000 as punishment for his case.

Tan was accused of "willfully, unlawfully and criminally" failing to file his SALN with Disclosure of Business Interest and Financial Connections and Identification of Relatives in Government Service under oath and submit them to the Office of the Ombudsman.

His son, Maimbung, Sulu Mayor Samier Tan, also faces the same charges for alleged non-filing of SALN for years 2010 and 2011 at the Third Division.

The arraignment of the younger Tan is scheduled on May 11. —KBK, GMA News
