BRGY AND SK POLLS

Comelec extends filing of COCs to Saturday, April 21, 2018

The Commission of Elections has extended the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) by one day, moving the deadline from April 20, Friday, to 5 p.m. on April 21, Saturday.

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon tweeted the announcement on Friday.

The Comelec en banc made the decision after the National Youth Commission expressed concern that the number of COCs filed would fall short of the 338,584 Sangguniang Kabataan positions.

The filing hours on 21 April 2018 will be from 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

A similar concern was raised with regard to the barangay elections.

Super Radyo dzBB’s Nimfa Ravelo reported that the commissioners initially thought of extending the filing of COCs only for SK candidates but they decided against it as it may cause confusion.

“Iniisip namin (na sa SK lang) kaya lang baka  ma-confuse ang tao. Baka yung tatakbong barangay baka pumunta doon at makipag-away sa election officer kaya lahat na lang (extended),” Guanzon said.

The radio report said the commissioners expects a bigger turnout Saturday because there are no classes or work.

The Comelec said the filing hours on April 21 will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Rie Takumi, Tina Panganiban-Perez and Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
