Roque to labor groups: Saan nanggagaling ang hugot niyo laban sa gobyerno?

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Tuesday questioned the sentiments of labor groups on President Rodrigo Duterte's signing of executive order (EO) against illegal contracting and subcontracting.

In a phone interview on QRT, Roque pointed out that the labor groups have not read the EO yet.

"Winawakwakan nila ang gobyerno, hindi naman nila nababasa pa ['yung EO], so saan nanggagaling ang hugot nila laban sa gobyerno?" Roque said. "Talagang babatuhin lang nila ang gobyerno maski hindi pa nila alam ang dahilan ng dapat batuhin."

"Malinaw po ang nilagdaan ng Presidente... ang ipagbawal ang kontraktuwalisasyon na lumalabag sa security of tenure ng manggagawa. Hindi po ito pagpapapogi. Ito po ay pagpapatupad ng batas," he added

Roque insisted that the EO was the product of the consultation between the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and labor groups, adding that Duterte just fulfilled his promise to workers.

"Wala pong mali sa pinirmahan ni Presidente, alinsunod po 'yan sa pangako at 'yan naman po talaga ay pinanindigan ng Pangulo," he said.

"Ito po ang bersyon ng DOLE. Ito po ang resulta ng konsultasyon ng DOLE sa lahat ng grupo ng manggagawa," Roque added.

In his Labor Day speech in Cebu City, Duterte announced his signing of the EO.

Some labor groups, however, were not pleased, saying they were unsure if their proposals were included in the EO that Duterte signed.

Moreover, leftist lawmakers condemned the signing of EO, noting that it is not a guarantee that the practice of contractualization will end in the country. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
