Duterte: May bagong naalis dahil sa corruption

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said that he recently sacked another government official over allegations of corruption.

Duterte didn't say who the official was, indicating that he didn't want to draw attention to his latest firing.

"Marami akong napaalis sa corruption. Meron bago. It has nothing to do at all with any other reason," Duterte said in a speech in Malacañang.

"Basta I just don’t want to make publicity out of it. I’ll leave to everybody to decide," he added.

Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo on Tuesday resigned her post over the questioned P60 million worth of advertisements the Department of Tourism had placed with PTV.

The ads were aired on block timer Bitag Media Unlimited's program "Kilos Pronto." Bitag is headed by Teo's brother Ben Tulfo.

The Commission on Audit in a report flagged the P60-million ad spend.

"Ang masakit nito, most of those I have dismissed actually were the very same people that urged me to run in the first place," Duterte said.

"Sila ‘yung pabalik-balik ng Davao, sila ‘yung sige udyok nang udyok. Ako naman dito sabi ko, 'ayaw ko,' even to the last day, I did not come here to file my certificate of candidacy because I did not want to run," he added.

Special Assistant to the President Secretary Bong Go on Tuesday night announced that Agriculture Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat would replace Teo as DOT secretary. —Virgil Lopez/NB, GMA News
