AFP, PNP probers yet to conclude Samar clash was a ‘misencounter’

Military and police probers have yet to conclude that Monday's clash between soldiers and policemen in a remote area in Samar was a "misencounter," GMA News' Marisol Abdurahman reported on Balitanghali on Thursday.

Six policemen were killed and nine others were hurt in what the military described as a "misencounter" between members of the Army's 87th Infantry Battalion and the police's Regional Mobile Force Battalion.

Investigation showed that the soldiers mistook the policemen for communist rebels because of their muddied uniforms.

The joint police-military Special Investigating Task Group (SITG) —  formed by the Board of Inquiry to look into the incident — has started its investigation with an ocular inspection on the area of the clash on Wednesday.

The SITG's investigation showed the soldiers were only seven to 15 meters away from the policemen based on the concentration of the empty shells recovered from the scene.

The report said both the military and police have also yet to conclude that what happened was an ambush as claimed by the survivors. —KBK, GMA News
