Duterte pledges P25M for cops’ medical expenses

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday pledged P25 million for cops' medical expenses.

"I would like to leave something for all to hear. I am giving you P25 million for medicines and all," Duterte said in his speech during the 117th Police Service Anniversary celebration in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

"If it needs a very specialized [operation] at wala tayo na doktor...You just tell me. We can afford it. You do not have to beg there and steal or borrow."

In exchange, the President called on the policemen to serve the country and not engage in corruption.

"All that I ask is that we serve our country the utmost good faith. Do not go into corruption. If you think that you cannot survive with the salary, then you are free to go," he said.

He also said the government allotted more than P2 billion to the Philippine National Police's Capability Enhancement Plan.

"I would like to emphasize that the PNP has the government’s full support and this administration is fully committed to enhance your capabilities," Duterte said.

Duterte's pledge came a day after he berated 102 erring policemen in Malacañang, saying he will have them "killed" should they continue their ways.

The President also said he could not understand how the erring policemen were able to enter the PNP, stressing that the institution is dedicated only to people who love and desire to serve the country. — BM, GMA News
