140th birth anniversary of President Manuel Quezon remembered

Government officials joined relatives of the late President Manuel L. Quezon on Sunday in observing his 140th birth anniversary.

Floral wreaths were laid in front of Quezon's bust at the Quezon Memorial Circle on Sunday morning.

These were from President Rodrigo Duterte, Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ephraim Ben Matityau, and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.

Matityau praised Quezon for his accomplishments and for helping Jewish refugees during World War II, according to a report on Balitanghali by Athena Imperial.

During his term as President, Quezon implemented an "Open Doors Policy" that enabled some 1,300 European Jewish refugees to safely go to the Philippines during the war.

Quezon's great granddaughter Yael Buencamino Borromeo gave a thanksgiving message on behalf of her family to the people of Quezon City for commemorating the late President's birth anniversary.

The event was followed by the formal opening of the new Presidential Car Museum inside Quezon Memorial Circle led by presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and NHCP executive director Ludovico Badoy.

The museum showcases 12 cars owned and used by various Presidents of the Philippines which were restored by the NHCP.

Among the cars displayed are a Chrysler Airflow Custom Imperial CW of Quezon, and a Cadillac V16 Transformable Town Car Cabriolet which he used.
