Trillanes' supporters spend night at Senate

Supporters of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV spent Friday night at the Senate compound.

In a photo posted by Super Radyo dzBB's Luisito Santos, a group of the senator's supporters could be seen huddled under a tent before 5 a.m. Saturday.

The situation remained peaceful at the Senate on Saturday morning as of 8 a.m., Super Radyo dzBB's Mao dela Cruz reported.

Trillanes has stayed at the Senate since Tuesday, when it was revealed that President Rodrigo Duterte issued Proclamation No. 572 stating that the amnesty extended to Trillanes was void from the start because he did not comply with the "minimum requirements to qualify under the amnesty proclamation."

When he was still a Navy officer, Trillanes was involved in unsuccessful attempts to overthrow the Arroyo administration.

He was granted amnesty by President Benigno Aquino III in 2011.

Proclamation 572 also called for the arrest of Trillanes “so that he can be recommitted to the detention facility where he had been incarcerated for him to stand trial for crimes he is charged with.”

Senate President Vicente Sotto III has placed Trillanes under Senate custody to preserve the dignity of the Senate.
