Duterte could be violating Anti-Wiretapping Law over 'declassified proof' of ouster plot —Alejano

President Rodrigo Duterte could be violating the Anti-Wiretapping Law if it is proven that a "conversation" was provided to him by a foreign country showing that several groups have been conniving to oust him.

Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano made the remark on Wednesday as he maintained that his group is not behind the supposed ouster plot against Duterte.

In a press conference, Alejano expressed concern over the Duterte's pronouncement regarding a "sympathetic" foreign country providing him evidence of alleged plans to remove him from office.

"That is a breach of security already. And if it is the President allowing this by publicly announcing that there is intercepted communication within the country, problematic 'yun," he said.

"We have Anti-Wiretapping Law. And if he is allowing it, he is violating the law," he added.

Magdalo had been involved in several military uprisings against the Arroyo administration.

In his tête-à-tête with Chief Presidential Legal Adviser Salvador Panelo, Duterte said he would disclose evidence to prove that the Magdalo group, the political opposition, and communists are conspiring to bring his presidency down.

"They have combined and we have the evidence, the conversation provided by a foreign country sympathetic to us. We do not have the sophistication but meron and the connection will be shown any day now. I asked that it be declassified," Duterte said.

"It might be a loose conspiracy but they are into it. Sabay-sabay sila," he added.

Alejano, however, said Duterte should back his claim with all the evidence he has.

"Bilyon-bilyon naman ang confidential and intelligence fund ng Pangulo. Huwag niyong kunin [ito] sa barbero, huwag niyang kunin sa tabi-tabi," he said.

Alejano even said that if Duterte's statement is true, its implications could be a ground for his impeachment.

Alejano last year filed an impeachment complaint against Duterte in connection with the thousands of people who died in the administration's war on drugs.

This, however, was dismissed by the House Committee on Justice for insufficiency in form. —KBK, GMA News
