2nd Makati court defers decision on Trillanes arrest warrant

The Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 on Friday did not issue an arrest warrant and a hold departure order against opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, according to Nimfa Ravelo's report on Dobol B sa News TV.

Instead, Judge Elmo Alameda gave the Department of Justice (DOJ) five days to submit a formal comment on the opposition to the petition for arrest warrant and HDO filed by Trillanes' camp.

Upon submission of the DOJ's comment, Trillanes' camp was likewise given five days to submit a reply.

On Thursday, Makati RTC Branch 148 also gave both camps  more days to submit additional pleadings to bolster their respective arguments.

Branch 148 handled the coup d’etat case against Trillanes, a former Navy officer involved in uprisings during the Arroyo administration, while Branch 150 handled his rebellion case.

These developments come after the Supreme Court (SC) found it appropriate to give "leeway" to the Makati RTCs to exercise their jurisdiction to hear or resolve pleadings filed as regards the legality of President Rodrigo Duterte's Proclamation No. 572, which nullified Trillanes' amnesty.

Trillanes has gone to the SC to contest the constitutionality of the proclamation, but was told that the issue of whether or not he complied with the requirements for amnesty was factual in nature. —KBK, GMA News
