In a media briefing in Tuguegarao City, Duterte said he wants to assure the public that the government is doing its job to provide the needs of those affected by the typhoon.
"We tend to continue it tomorrow... one is just to assure the people that the government is present... we have to go back to normalcy as soon as possible," Duterte said.
Ompong left 25 people dead and a swathe of destruction after ramming through northern Luzon over the weekend.
At 10 a.m., weather bureau PAGASA said Ompong was spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 705 kilometers west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 145 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kilometers per hour.
PAGASA noted that Ompong no longer has any direct effect on the country. —Anna Felicia Bajo/LBG, GMA News
