80% of Pinoys satisfied with Duterte's war on drugs —SWS

Nearly 8 out of 10 Filipinos said they are satisfied with the Duterte administration's war on drugs, the Social Weather Stations said on Sunday.

The results of the SWS public poll, conducted on June 27-30, 2018, showed that 78 percent of the 1,200 respondents were satisfied with the campaign against illegal drugs, while 13 percent were not, yielding a "very good" net satisfaction rating of +65.

This net satisfaction rating is one point above March 2018's rating of +64.

However, it has gone down to the +63 to +66 range since March 2017 as compared to when the survey was first conducted in September 2016, which resulted in an "excellent" rating of +76.

The net satisfaction rating was highest in December 2017 at +77 and reached its lowest in September 2017 at +63.

The results of the SWS survey also revealed that net satisfaction with the performance of President Rodrigo Duterte was higher among those satisfied with the war on drugs, at a "very good" +59 as compared to the "moderate" +19 among those undecided and the "poor" -18 among those dissatisfied.

The SWS said the increase in the nationwide net satisfaction with the war on drugs was brought about by the decrease in support in Visayas, offset by slight increase in support in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, and Mindanao.

Net satisfaction was lowest in Visayas, which dropped to +57, or by 12 points from the very good +69 in March 2018.

It, however, was highest in Mindanao after it increased by 3 points from the excellent +81 in March 2018 to +84 in June.

Net satisfaction also increased by 2 points and 5 points in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon, respectively.

'Testament'

Malacañang on Sunday welcomed the results of the SWS survey.

"This is a testament that the drug war continues to enjoy the broad support of our people, notwithstanding the efforts of the detractors and critics of the Administration to politicize the issue or discredit the campaign’s success," presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

"Filipinos aspire for a crime-free society which can be realized by stopping the spread of criminality and fighting the scourge of drugs," he added.

The survey was participated by 300 adults each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, with a sampling error margins of ±3 percent for national percentages, and ±6 percent each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. —Erwin Colcol/LBG/KG, GMA News
