Uneasy calm prevails at Senate premises early Thursday morning

Security at the Philippine Senate premises in Pasay City shortly before 7 a.m. on Thursday was normal, but the calm atmosphere was uneasy with an expected order for the arrest of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV from another court in Makati City.

GMA News' Mark Makalalad told Super Radyo dzBB's "Dobol B sa News TV" that regular security men and a few police personnel could be seen early Thursday.

No military trucks were seen around the area that could stoke any speculation that could cause tension.

The Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 148—hearing the Justice department's plea for the arrest and hold-departure order on Trillanes—is expected to come out with a ruling anytime this day.

Earlier this week, the Makati RTC Branch 150 ordered the arrest of Trillanes for rebellion case, but Trillanes was able to post bail of P200,000.

He returned to the Senate where he has been holed up for several weeks since President Rodrigo Duterte nullified the amnesty given to him for his involvement in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny and the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege.

Trillanes might be arrested anytime this day if RTC 148 would issue an order for his arrest for coup d'état, which is a non-bailable case. —LBG, GMA News
