PDEA deputy knew about P6.8-B shabu shipment, relieved from post —Aquino

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Deputy Director General for Administration (DDGA) Ismael Fajardo Jr. has been relieved of his post over his role in the alleged smuggling of P6.8-billion worth of shabu.

PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino made the announcement during the joint House Committee on Dangerous Drugs and Good Government and Public Accountability inquiry into the supposed shabu smuggling incident.

"With regards to my former DDGA, Director III Ismael Fajardo, he was relieved last September 14 as OIC DDGA of PDEA," Aquino said during the hearing.

Aquino said the PDEA had found out that Fajardo and resigned Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service officer Jimmy Guban knew that the hundreds of kilograms of shabu would be shipped to the country.

"It was found out that agents Guban and Ismael Fajardo had knowledge on the shipments," Aquino said.

Guban himself was also cited in contempt by the joint House panels for supposedly giving false statements during the hearing.

This was after the Senate Blue Ribbon has also cited him in contempt for allegedly lying during the its own investigation into the shabu smuggling incident. —NB, GMA News
