Ex-PSC chair Angping seeks court approval for Malaysia trip

Former Philippine Sports Commission chairman Harry Angping has asked Sandiganbayan for permission to travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for four days despite his pending graft case.

Angping told the Sixth Division that he intends to travel to Malaysia from October 11 to 14 where he is expected to have a business meeting with a certain Low Beng Chiu, president of Malaysia Softball Associate and SCA Softball Confederation Asia.

Angping said his P60,000 travel bond will ensure his faithful compliance to the conditions of the Sandiganbayan once his travel motion is approved.

"Wherefore, premises considered, it is most respectfully prayed that after due consideration, the accused Harry C. Angping be given leave of court to leave the Philippines and travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on October 11, 2018 to October 14, 2018," his motion read.

Angping is accused of conniving with Philcare Manpower Services president Edmund Montanes for the hiring of 71 janitors and nine gardeners without securing the necessary requirements.

The prosecution alleged that Angping gave undue advantage to Philcare when he signed an addendum to the contract of service of the firm without the conduct of a public bidding.

The PSC paid the 80 personnel P15,324.42 per month from March 2009 to January 2011, but the prosecution said the government was deprived of the opportunity to have the most beneficial contract. —KBK, GMA News
