Peralta is acting chief justice while Carpio takes a break

Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta has been appointed acting Supreme Court chief while Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio takes a leave of absence.

Designated through a special order by Carpio, Peralta will be acting chief justice from October 31 to November 4, court spokesperson Maria Victoria Gleoresty Guerra said Tuesday.

Peralta is the second most senior incumbent SC justice, after Carpio. Both are candidates for the chief justice post vacated by the retired Teresita Leonardo-De Castro.

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) closed the application and nomination period for chief justice aspirants last Friday, October 26.

Vying for the top judge’s post are Carpio, Peralta, and Associate Justices Lucas Bersamin, Estela Perlas-Bernabe, and Andres Reyes, Jr. — MDM, GMA News
