21 drug suspects killed during 4-day Undas weekend

At least 21 drug suspects were killed during the police's anti-drug operations during the four-day weekend in observance of All Saints and All Souls Day, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.

PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde revealed that aside from the 21 persons who were killed, 981 drug suspects were arrested, while two other drug suspects were wounded in various operations nationwide from November 1 to 4.

The PNP also arrested 525 wanted persons during the same period.

Robbery incidents, on the other hand, reached 52 cases. Of the 52, a total of 28 took place in residential areas, 23 in commercial areas, and one in a public place.

Three vehicular incidents also left two dead and at least 12 injured.

In addition, the PNP confiscated four firearms; 28,595 bladed weapons and liquor; 615 gambling paraphernalia; and, 195 karaoke machines.

Still, Albayalde described the weekend as “generally peaceful.”

“I would like to congratulate the Regional Directors, and Directors of National Support Units for the success of this security operation. I also extend the gratitude of the PNP to all local government units, national government agencies, the administrators of public cemeteries and memorial parks, and our partner NGOs, civilian volunteers, force multipliers, and the citizens for their cooperation in ensuring peaceful and orderly Undas,” Albayalde said in a statement.

“This well-coordinated operation serves as our dry run for a larger security operation for the coming Yuletide season. Rest assured we are making early preparations to maximize efficiency of planned actions,” he added.
