Robredo: Democrats’ takeover of House in recent US elections ‘inspiring’

Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday said that the Democrats' taking control of the US House of Representatives in last week's mid-term elections is "inspiring."

Kasi ‘di ba iyong mga kandidato ni President Trump, tumatakbo against the Democrats," Robredo said in an RMN interview.

The US midterm elections—seen as a referendum on President Donald Trump, his divisive policies, his inflammatory rhetoric, and the mounting controversies surrounding him—saw the Democrats taking control of the House of Representatives even though some precincts have not yet reported final results.

Robredo expressed satisfaction over the victory of candidates representing various minority sectors in the US.

Unity

As the Philippines' own midterm elections draw near, the vice president said the lesson that people may learn from the US poll result is that voices can be heard if there's unity.

During the presentation of the opposition coalition's senatorial bets last month, Robredo also recounted how the people's unity made it possible for her to win the 2016 national election.

Pero dahil sa pagkakaisa, naging posible 'yung one percent to vice president," Robredo said. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
