Faeldon formally assumes BuCor post, vows to curb Bilibid drug trade

Newly-installed Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director general Nicanor Faeldon on Monday vowed to curb illegal drug trade in the national penitentiary as well as address the issue on jail congestion.

According to a News To Go report, Faeldon read his appointment paper during his first flag ceremony at BuCor.

Faeldon also plans to transfer some facilities of BuCor to other areas.

Faeldon, former deputy administrator of the Office of Civil Defense, took his oath before Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra last week.

The former Marine captain also served as chief of the Bureau of Customs (BOC). It was under his watch when billions of pesos worth of shabu were smuggled into the country.

The Department of Justice already cleared him of drug smuggling charges.

Faeldon replaced Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, who is running for senator in the 2018 elections. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
