PAL flight from Manila to LA diverted due to passenger's medical emergency

A Philippine Airlines flight from Manila to Los Angeles had to be diverted on Sunday after a passenger had a medical emergency.

PAL Flight PR102 had to make an emergency landing at Haneda Airport in Japan to ensure a passenger had medical attention, according to a report by Mao dela Cruz on Super Radyo dzBB.

The passenger was given medical attention on board and did not have to be brought to a hospital.

The flight flew back to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after its landing permit at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) expired.

It arrived before noon at the NAIA Terminal 1, according to a report by Ariel Fernandez on Super Radyo dzBB.

PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna told Super Radyo dzBB PR102 departed Manila at 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Five hours into the flight, the passenger had a medical emergency, she said.

The passenger's condition normalized while in Haneda after being given medical support, the PAL spokesperson added.

However, the landing permit issued to PR102 was only until midnight of July 3, LA time.

Due to the diversion and refueling at Haneda, the flight, if it pushed through to Los Angeles, would have arrived at the airport around 1 a.m. of July 4, LA time, Villaluna said.

Thus the flight just went back and is expected to arrive before noon Sunday at the NAIA.

The flight has 186 passengers, Villaluna said.

"We will take care of passengers upon landing," Villaluna added.

The affected passengers will stay at the airport and board the next flight scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday, she said.

Among the passengers on board PR5102 was Senator Manny Pacquiao who was on the way to the US to prepare for his boxing match against Errol Spence Jr. scheduled in August.

Pacquiao and his team proceeded to the VIP Room to await the next flight for Los Angeles, which is PR1502. —KG, GMA News
