US ambassador tweets condolences to kin of Pinay killed in limo fire

United States Ambassador to the Philippines Harry Thomas Jr. on Tuesday tweeted his condolences to the family of a Filipina bride who was killed in a limousine fire in California last weekend.

 

In a post on his Twitter account, Thomas also relayed his sympathies to the families of four other nurses killed in the tragedy.

 

"Mystery surrounds deadly limo fire ... Condolences to the Fojas family in the Philippines and the U.S. and other nurses," he said.

He included in his tweet a link to a Cable News Network update on the tragedy, where mystery still shrouds the deadly limo fire.

 

The CNN report quoted the driver of the limo, Ricky Brown, as describing the fire as "horrific." 

 

Filipina Neriza Fojas, 31, was among the five fatalities in the tragedy, where the stretch limo caught fire while bringing the victims to the wedding party. 

 

No sign of problems

 

In the CNN story, Brown said the limousine showed no sign of problems before it caught fire.

 

He recalled one of the women in the limo knocking on the partition separating him from the passengers, and saying "smoke."

 

At first, he said he thought she was asking if she could smoke a cigarette, but after 30 seconds, she knocked again and he sensed something was wrong this time.

 

Brown also said he smelled smoke and quickly stopped the limo. He managed to help only some of the women.
