2 rescuers drown trying to save 4 beachgoers off Ilocos Norte

MANILA, Philippines — Two men who tried to save four young beachgoers ended up dead after they drowned in Currimao town in the northern province of Ilocos Norte. A report by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday said the tragedy happened Sunday at 1:45 p.m. at Subli-Subli Beach Resort, Barangay Victoria in Currimao. Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo, PCG commandant, identified the victims Eduardo Apostol, 27, of Barangay Peralta in Dingras town and Ronald Herrera, 19, of Barangay Tamurung, San Nicholas. Investigation revealed that the beachgoers aged 13 and 27 were drifted by big waves into deep waters while they were swimming at the beach resort. Apostol and Herrera reportedly came to the rescue of the distressed swimmers but were unable to swim through big waves and drowned. Unidentified beachgoers reportedly saved the four swimmers. - GMANews.TV
