Classes suspended in storm-hit NLuzon towns

Classes in all levels in northern Luzon provinces that were affected by typhoon “Pepeng" are suspended for three days starting Monday, the education department said on Sunday. In a text message, Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said private and public schools in the entire Pangasinan province would have no classes until Wednesday. Classes in Benguet province, especially in landslide-hit Baguio City, at the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) are likewise suspended for three days.
In Central Luzon, classes in the towns of Paniqui, Moncada, San Manuel, Ramos, Anao, Pura and Lapaz in Tarlac province, as well as Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija, are also suspended. “However, localized suspension in such areas may be made by local authorities in schools which may still be flooded, used as evacuation centers, or unsafe for students," Lapus said. At least 120 public schools in CAR, Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon are now being used as evacuation centers for some 5,334 families affected by Pepeng. Lapus also said initial damage assessment to the 459 public schools in North Luzon has already reached more than P202 million as of Sunday. - GMANews.TV
