1 killed in predawn Davao City fire — report


At least one member of a family was reported killed while seven were hurt in a fire that hit a residential area in Davao City before dawn Saturday.

The fire occurred at the Lanang district in the city and killed a member of the Manto family, according to a report by radio dzBB's Davao affiliate Ruth Dumandan.

Citing initial information, the report said the fire started at 1:45 a.m.

Arson investigators initially estimated the damage caused by the fire at P2 million.

Investigators are also verifying information an electrical short circuit triggered the fire.

A separate report on Bombo Radyo said firefighters put out the fire at 3 a.m.

The Bombo Radyo report cited initial investigation showing members of the Manto family were trapped, including the fatality who it identified as Nilo Manto.

It said the other family members who were injured were Victor Manto, 65; Mirriam Manto, 55; Timothy John Manto, 20; Haedy Manto, 37, Nilo's wife; and their children Stephanie, 16; Aileen, 12; and Niel John, 10.
 
Rescue teams used a boom truck to rescue the family.  — LBG, GMA News
