Tornado hits Cebu, 'minor injuries' reported

Some residents were reported injured after a tornado hit parts of the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu in Cebu province late Monday.

The city government said on its Twitter account the tornado swirled through the two Cebu cities between 7:45 and 8 p.m.

An initial report on dzBB radio early Tuesday said at least two people were reported injured after the tornado hit some villages.

"So far only minor injuries reported. Some damage to property," Cebu Rep. Gabriel Luis Quisumbing said on his Twitter account, citing initial information, but without saying specifically how many.

Quisumbing asked residents to report injuries or damage via hotline 09228434114.

He added teams were dispatched to assess damage and conduct relief operations. — ELR, GMA News
