2 soldiers killed, 6 others wounded in NPA clash in Davao City

Two soldiers were killed while six others were wounded after a firefight erupted Sunday between the members of the military and New People’s Army in Davao City, Super Radyo DZBB’s Raul Tolibas reported on Monday.

According to Maj. Gen. Noel Clement, members of the Eastern Mindanao Command were responding in Sitio Bajada in Paquibato District after receiving a report on the presence of armed men in the area when the rebel group fired at them.

When the military fought back, the NPA retreated, leaving at the scene a M653 Colt rifle with a magazine, two jungle bags, electric wire and other personal belongings.

Clement chose not to disclose the identity of the slain soldiers as their families have yet to be informed about their demise, the report said.

Following the incident, members of the Davao City Police Office prepared security plans as the city celebrates the 119th anniversary of Philippine Independence, led by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

Police have also been alerted as there were reports of protest actions by militant groups. —Erwin Colcol/KG, GMA News
