NPAs take firearms, patrol car in Iloilo police station raid

At least 50 suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) raided a police station in Maasin, Iloilo province on Sunday morning.

Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 6, said the rebels raided the Maasin Municipal Police Station at around 10:45 a.m.

No policemen were hurt during the raid, but the rebels took several firearms from the police station including eight M16 rifles, four Glock 9mm pistols, five handheld radios, a base radio, and two laptops.

Gorero said the rebels also took P25,000 case from the police station and a patrol car.

He said robbery and carnapping charges are being prepared against the rebel group.

The attack came a day after the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) announced that it had recommended to the Communist Party of the Philippines to order the NPA to halt offensives against the government.

Responding to the NDFP's statement, government peace panel chairman Labor Secretary Silvestro Bello III said they will recommend to the Armed Forces of the Philippines to refrain its offensives against the NPA. —ALG, GMA News
