SAN JOSE DEL MONTE, Bulacan — Not even a visit from President Rodrigo Duterte can lessen the pain, sorrow, and emptiness that bank security guard Dexter Carlos has to grasp after the brutal murder his wife, three young children and mother-in-law inside their home.

Duterte on Tuesday paid his respects to the victims of the massacre. The five coffins were placed in a covered court just a few steps away from their home in Northridge Royale Subdivision.

Carlos cried upon meeting Duterte — triggered, he said, by the overwhelming gratitude for those who reached out to help him and his family.

Carlos’ family will be laid to rest on Wednesday morning. The future may seem like a blur for him, but seeking for justice for the brutal deaths of his loved ones will keep him going, for now.

He said Duterte, a tough anti-crime advocate, has personally assured him of justice.

Before Duterte left, he gave a warning to the suspects that they will die if they even cross paths with him.

While Carlos was surprised when he heard about the reports that one of the suspects was found dead, he said it was fate’s handiwork.

Basta ang akin lang, justice lang ng pamilya ang hinihiling ko,” he said, as he expressed his trust with the police handling the case.

—KBK, GMA News
