Ozamiz police: 1 kg of shabu recovered from raids on Parojinog homes

The Ozamiz City police director said they recovered more than one kilogram of shabu from the houses of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog and daughter Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez as they were served simultaneous warrants for illegal firearms and ammunition.

"Although iyong search warrant na [implemented] by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is for illegal possession of firearms, but incidentally, doon na nakuha iyong illegal drugs," Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido said in the briefing that followed the bloody encounter on Monday.

Espenido said operatives found half a kilo of shabu with drug paraphernalia in the mayor's house, while another half-kilo was found in the house Parojinog-Echavez was staying in a houses away.

Parjinog, his wife Susan, his brother Board Member Octavio Parojinog and 12 others were killed in the predawn raid on Sunday. Parojinog-Echavez and her brother Reynaldo Parojinog Jr. were arrested.

Espenido said that several firearms were also recovered from the houses, including an M16 rifle, two hand grenades, and a .45 pistol.

According to Mark Zambrano's report on "24 Oras," Parojinog-Echavez accused the police of planting the drugs and firearms before the CIDG operatives arrived to serve the warrant.

"Everything is fabricated. Nilusob ang bahay namin.  Hindi akin yung drugs, pinlanted nila lahat pati baril," she said.

The Parojinogs came to national attention after their names appeared on President Rodrigo Duterte's list of personalities allegedly linked to illegal drugs trade.

"Matagal na nilang ini-expect na mali-liquidate sila," the Ozamiz City legal officer Jeffrey James Ocang said, citing that local police allegedly harassed the Parojinog family months prior to the attack. — Margaret Claire Layug/BM, GMA News
