Leyte detainee escapes as jail guard was busy texting

Pursuit operations are ongoing against a detainee who escaped from the Baybay City Regional Trial Court in Leyte on Wednesday.

According to a report by Lei Alviz on "24 Oras," the suspect identified as Job Porazo, along with other high value targets, were meant to attend a hearing at the RTC. Porazo was held at a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology detention facility.

CCTV footage showed that Porazo made his escape as his jail guard was distracted by his mobile phone.

In the video, Porazo could be seen peeking out of the door and gesturing at someone outside. No one noticed that Porazo was able to remove his handcuffs.

As the guard continued texting on his phone, Porazo ran to his accomplice, who was waiting for him on a motorcycle.

BJMP personnel attempted to chase after the two to no avail.

Porazo was arrested last March 4 for violation of RA 9165, or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. —Jessica Bartolome/JST, GMA News
