Amid bird flu outbreak, 2 farm workers isolated after showing symptoms

Two farmers from San Luis town in Pampanga, where an avian flu outbreak has been confirmed, have been isolated after they showed flu-like symptoms, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Tuesday.

According to a Balita Pilipinas report, one farm worker has a fever while the other one has a cough.

The DOH said it has yet to confirm whether they are indeed cases of avian flu.

The agency has conducted contact tracing among relatives of the two patients and did not find flu symptoms.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol last week revealed a bird flu outbreak from a poultry farm in Barangay San Agustin.

Piñol said the outbreak of avian influenza Type A subtype H5 began in a quail farm before spreading to poultry farms. —Anna Felicia Bajo/JST/KVD, GMA News
