Alleged police shootout with suspected kidnappers caught on CCTV

A CCTV camera caught Wednesday's alleged shootout between the police and three suspected kidnappers in Biñan, Laguna, according to a report by GMA News' Athena Imperial on 24 Oras.

The grainy footage shows the blue Toyota Corolla carrying the suspects making a U-turn near the Southwoods Exit of SLEX before it stopped. Several men in civilian clothes were then seen approaching it.

Two suspects then got out from the passenger side of the vehicle and dropped to the ground until they lay completely motionless. One of the men in civilian clothes was seen nudging one of the suspects with his foot.

The security camera did not catch what happened to the vehicle's driver, the report said.

The footage also failed to indicate whether the suspects fired at the police as the police claimed.

Residents in the area could not also say if a shootout did indeed take place.

"May narinig kaming putok, tumakbo kami doon, hindi ko po nakita, nakita lang namin, tumba na," a resident said.

The report said killed in the incident were an Indian national identified as Indirgight Singh alias Goldie, a kidnap-for-ransom suspect, and his two Filipino cohorts.

Citing the police, the report said the group was on its way to meet someone in a fastfood joint in the area. However, they attempted to escape when they noticed that they were being followed by the police.

Before the supposed encounter, police were able to rescue kidnap victim Anial Sojal Kumar from an apartment in Pasay City.

"Pag-dating namin nag-iisa na ['yung victim], nakagapos po siya doon," said Superintendent Arthur Masungsong, officer-in-charge of Luzon Field Unit of the Philippine National Police - Anti-Kidnapping Group.

Masungsong said the group is known to target Indian nationals.

The report said the group received P935,000 ransom from Kumar's relatives, who tipped the police about the suspects' next move. —Margaret Claire Layug/KBK, GMA News
