CHR probes Biñan 'clash' between cops, kidnap suspects

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Thursday started its investigation on Wednesday's alleged shootout between policemen and suspected kidnappers in Biñan, Laguna, that resulted in the death of the three suspects.

Interviewed on QRT, CHR spokesperson Jackie de Guia said their Regional Office-4 has already assigned investigators who will look into the case.

She also said if ever there was indeed a shootout, the CHR will look if it was necessary.

Members of the Philippine National Police - Anti-Kidnapping Group said the driver of the vehicle started the shootout by firing at the pursuing policemen.

A CCTV footage of the incident showing two of the suspects dropping on the ground after they got out of a vehicle that was surrounded by armed men in civilian clothes has raised suspicion on the shootout claim.

Before the supposed encounter, the police were able to rescue the group's victim, an Indian national, in Pasay City. —KBK, GMA News
